Food is a Big Reason Why Biggest Losers Lose So Much Weight
Do You Know Why?

Another reason Biggest Losers lose so much weight is The Food. Motivation got these people selected for the event that will change and influence many others to follow their example.Team work involves every body's participation in being able to follow direction and be good examples for the viewer's. Goal setting gives continuity to the show and helps to identify progress and measure success, but what makes it all happen is The Food. Yes, what they eat is what makes them lose safely. Yes, you see my opinion is clear, The Food is a major reason people lose and exercise is not part of those reasons.

To lose 1 pound you need to eat 3500 calories less than what you are use to eating. Now, do the math, if a contestant eats 8000 calories a day and drops the calorie intake from whatever source to 4500 calories on one day, that contestant will lose 1 pound. He has to eat healthy and maintain a good balance of nutrients to maintain good health and that is why they are very closely supervised. This explains the results. When someone as lost 10 lbs in one week, it just means that he has eaten 35000 less calories in that week.

Yes, I know what you are thinking, you are asking yourself what does exercise have to do with it? It helps keep their mind off eating. Giving them challenges motivates them and keeps the show exciting. Watching them work out is inspiring to say the least. It helps burn some of those calories but not as much as you think. Look up how much activity you need to do to burn off 1 pound or 3500 calories and you will see that these people don't have enough hours in a day to burn off 10 pounds in one week. We all know the benefits of exercising. My point is that it is not as important as you think.

The last chance workout, before weigh in, burns less calories than you think. The show is based on results. The reason most of these people get the weight off and maintain it is because they have gone to biggest loser 101. They are learning how to eat better and leave with all the tools they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The lifestyle results are long lasting. The ultimate winner is the one that as used all the tools in the best possible way. Yes, exercise and effort make the winner be the winner. It does help that person lose a little more than most and that is why there is a winner, effort, motivation, team worker, goal oriented and discipline. All these factors help determine the best.

This Program really works because it follows simple basic principles, lets review some of them: You need to be Motivated. You need to be part of a team-Team Work. You need to have very clearly defined Goals. You must eat the right Foods. This is the way I see it. Food for thought.

But eating healthy is always great for your body especially when it comes to the prevention of heart disease by maintaining good heart health. If you are serious about eating healthy, then you need to become more educated about the foods you eat and the nutrients they contain.

When it comes to eating healthy, many people tend to make poor decisions such as having some ice cream and a slice of piece on an occasion. But these bad habits tend to add up those calories while also leading to not so good health. There are ways to keep watch over what we actually put into our mouths, and with some hard work, your job of eating healthy can become much easier. Healthy eating is an opportunity to try many new and wonderful foods or different vegetables, fruits, and other grains that you would not normally eat. Research has shown that following a healthy eating plan can do two things: lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of developing it. Having a well balanced diet will help your kids grow up strong and healthy too. Children that sit down with their families for meals are also more likely to eat fruits, vegetables, and grains with less likelihood of snacking on unhealthy foods.

The most obvious health threat of eating too much fast food is excessive weight gain. Eating healthy does not have to mean that you can't enjoy the food you love and simply having to eat foods that are unappealing. Eating healthy does mean to stay away from such foods as candy, cookies, pastries, and cakes. Results of many studies have shown that by eating fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy will help to reduce elevated blood pressure.

Making healthy meals is easy and can be done by using more raw foods such as salads, vegetable juices, choosing sandwiches with whole grain bread, and using low-fat products. You can easily reduce the amount of fat you eat by choosing fewer high-fat foods while cooking with less fat. Make that health choice today and your body and family will thank you for it!

8 steps to increase your metabolism

zz
One of ways to lose weight is to increase metabolism. Once you get used to it, it's actually pretty easy.

Here are the 8 steps:

  1. DON"T SKIP BREAKFAST!... You've been going hours without food, which isn't good for your metabolism. Eat healthy breakfast such as cereal. Just a little food to tide you over until the next meal. It'll keep you going and prevent you from eating too much later in the day.

  2. Eat in small proportions. Did you know it takes about 15 minutes to get the signal that you're eating to your stomach? That means that if you stuff your face, you'll still feel hungry in that 15 minutes. Take bites every 2 or 3 minutes. Eating with company is a good way, because you'll be talking more often (and obviously you shouldn't eat while you talk). It really works. Doctors say it's best to eat 4-6 small meals 2-3 hours apart. Avoid gaps of 5-6 hours when you're not eating.

  3. Exercise a lot! Strength training is great for increasing your metabolism because it grows your muscle mass (which in turn is metabolically active), which means that your passive metabolism rate will increase to keep up with the high energy demands of your increased muscle mass. Secondly, strength training in particular provides a so-called "after-burn effect", which increases metabolism for up to 24 hours after you finish exercising.

  4. Eat healthy foods. Some of them include whole grains, beans, vegetables, fruit, and more. Not only does this help your metabolism, but it has the added bonus of giving you energy.

  5. Be more active. This doesn't mean that you have to join every sport there is. You can just increase your activity in and around the house. Little things such as playing with cat can make a big difference.

  6. Walk 30-40 minutes 3-4 days a week.

  7. Record your results. Each week, before breakfast, weigh yourself. Keep track so that you can see the changes.

  8. Spicy food increases your metabolism up to 40 percent. Fall in love with spicy food or take "bites" of your favorite extra-spicy sauce every once in a while, or every few hours. Use it in foods as well.

Why Eat Seasonally?

zz
Why Eat Seasonally?
By: Andrea Flint

One of the most popular recent topics of conversation relating to our eating habits has been the idea of eating seasonally. What this basically means is that, as far as possible, we should only eat foods which are naturally available at the time of year we're eating them. But why should we care whether a food is in season? Is this merely a passing fad that people are getting excited about just now, but will soon be forgotten? What exactly are the benefits of eating seasonally?

The first major benefit is an important one in our environmentally conscious times. When we eat a food which isn't in season, it would normally have to be transported to us from a part of the world where it is. This brings up the subject of so-called 'food miles', which measure how far a food has to travel from where it's produced to where it's consumed. For a variety of reasons - pollution, energy consumption etc - it's better to minimize food miles whenever we can. Seasonal food will generally be produced much nearer to the point of consumption, and so will have a lower impact on the environment than well traveled foods.

A related point is freshness: if food doesn't have to travel as far, it will be fresher when you come to eat it, and it's generally the case that the fresher a food, the better it tastes and the more health benefits it has. This is especially the case with fruits and vegetables, which are often picked well before they are ripe so that they can withstand the long journeys they have to make without going past their best. Unfortunately, this will normally reduce the eating qualities of the food.

With seasonal food usually being more locally produced, concentrating your spending power on buying it will help to keep your local economy ticking over, keeping money circulating within your community, which can only help make the place you live a more pleasant area to be in.

The final reason for eating seasonally that we'll cover is at first glance a little paradoxical: by limiting the range of foods we eat to those in season, we stand less chance of getting bored with what we eat. When everything is available all year round, we'll tend to buy the same things over and over again, getting stuck in a culinary rut. Seasonal foods avoid this problem - by only using what's available at the time, we're forced to come up with new ways of eating rather than just sticking to what we know. There's also the sense of anticipation that we get from knowing that a certain favorite food will shortly be coming into season, and the pleasure of eating it increases when we know that it's a seasonal treat that we should appreciate before it's gone for another year!

Of course, few people advocate that you should deprive yourself by only eating local and seasonal produce - or how would people in cooler climates enjoy, for example, citrus fruits? However, by paying attention to what's good and local at the moment, you provide an extra dimension to your food shopping and eating that just loading up your trolley with imported foods at the supermarket really can't match.
