Why we need breakfast

zz

There are so many people choose to skip breakfast. Plenty of studies show that people who regularly eat breakfast are less likely to be classed as obese, are less likely to develop diabetes and to succumb to heart disease, and yet many people still fall into the trap of believing that if they miss breakfast they will lose more weight faster. The truth, though, is that missing breakfast simply messes up people's metabolism and makes them more prone to bingeing on junk food, and thus breakfast should be considered essential for weight management.

Eating a healthy breakfast, rich in complex carbohydrates, calcium, protein, and minerals and vitamins, sets people up for the day, as they have energy. They may wake up feeling drowsy, and breakfast provides the perfect opportunity to perk themselves up. Their bodies need nourishment having been deprived of food for a considerable amount of time, and eating breakfast can boost people's metabolism, helping the body to burn fat more effectively. Their blood sugar levels will also benefit from a nutritious, well-balanced breakfast giving them energy.

When people feel as if they have energy they are generally in a more positive frame of mind, being better able to cope with stress and with other people, and can concentrate more on what they are doing. There is also more potential for them to be physically active, as they will be able to walk or cycle to work if they want, without feeling extremely drained. Exercising is obviously another essential feature of a healthy lifestyle, which eating breakfast can facilitate.

People who are eat breakfast in the morning are less likely to reach for junk food, as they have no need to. Individuals who are continually hungry, having not received the energy and nutrients needed at breakfast time, are more likely to make poor dietary choices to give them the quick-fix they need to keep them going. Their energy levels may temporarily increase, but they will soon revert back to feeling lethargic and ill-tempered.

Therefore breakfast should be a priority for anyone who wants to control their weight and lead a healthy lifestyle. It might be tempting for some people to simply cut calories by missing a meal, but doing so only jeopardises their ability to practise weight management effectively, as well as their overall sense of well-being.

Food is a Big Reason Why Biggest Losers Lose So Much Weight

Food is a Big Reason Why Biggest Losers Lose So Much Weight
Do You Know Why?

Another reason Biggest Losers lose so much weight is The Food. Motivation got these people selected for the event that will change and influence many others to follow their example.Team work involves every body's participation in being able to follow direction and be good examples for the viewer's. Goal setting gives continuity to the show and helps to identify progress and measure success, but what makes it all happen is The Food. Yes, what they eat is what makes them lose safely. Yes, you see my opinion is clear, The Food is a major reason people lose and exercise is not part of those reasons.

To lose 1 pound you need to eat 3500 calories less than what you are use to eating. Now, do the math, if a contestant eats 8000 calories a day and drops the calorie intake from whatever source to 4500 calories on one day, that contestant will lose 1 pound. He has to eat healthy and maintain a good balance of nutrients to maintain good health and that is why they are very closely supervised. This explains the results. When someone as lost 10 lbs in one week, it just means that he has eaten 35000 less calories in that week.

Yes, I know what you are thinking, you are asking yourself what does exercise have to do with it? It helps keep their mind off eating. Giving them challenges motivates them and keeps the show exciting. Watching them work out is inspiring to say the least. It helps burn some of those calories but not as much as you think. Look up how much activity you need to do to burn off 1 pound or 3500 calories and you will see that these people don't have enough hours in a day to burn off 10 pounds in one week. We all know the benefits of exercising. My point is that it is not as important as you think.

The last chance workout, before weigh in, burns less calories than you think. The show is based on results. The reason most of these people get the weight off and maintain it is because they have gone to biggest loser 101. They are learning how to eat better and leave with all the tools they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The lifestyle results are long lasting. The ultimate winner is the one that as used all the tools in the best possible way. Yes, exercise and effort make the winner be the winner. This Program really works because it follows simple basic principles, lets review some of them: You need to be Motivated. You need to be part of a team-Team Work. You need to have very clearly defined Goals. You must eat the right Foods. This is the way I see it. Food for thought.

Maple Syrup Diet - Beyonce's Diet Secret Revealed

zz
Who doesn't love maple syrup? It is a main export of Canada, it goes great on pancakes and it livens up any breakfast dish. However, did you know that it can also be used to help you lose weight?

This diet is used by celebrity singer Beyonce Knowles, who endorses the diet completely. Using the diet helped her lose several pounds in two weeks for her part in Dreamgirls, last year. This diet consisted of eating nothing for 2 weeks, and only drinking detox drinks that consisted of syrup mixed with water, cayenne pepper and lemon juice.

The syrup she used was Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, which is made from maple and palm trees. While it may seem like a new diet, it actually has its origins 30 years ago, when it was created by naturopath Stanley Burroughs. The Maple Syrup Diet has claimed to cleanse the body of toxins, improve immune systems and concentration, increase energy and create cleaner skin.

Typically, the Maple Syrup Diet can be made by mixing two tablespoons of the syrup with two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice and a small amount of cayenne pepper, combined with a glass of hot or cold water. You can drink as many as six to nine glasses of this drink.

When choosing which of the detox plans to go with, you can choose the full detox that means drinking the detox drink for 10 to 14 days, the relaxed version that has involves substituting a meal with the detox drink; the once a week version that has you skip food for one day to drink the detox drink, or the Master Plan, which is a bi-annual, multi-day detox plan that is combined with detoxing once per week.

This plan can seem like it is far-fetched, but in fact it can be used to help you lose weight, and fast.

Foods That Help You Lose Weight - Three Simple Principles

zz
What's your biggest obstacle to weight loss? Feeling hungry? Learning which foods will help you lose weight will not only help you slim down, but also help you feel fuller and be more successful in getting to your weight loss goals.

#1 Eat enough protein.

What is protein? Protein is found in foods such as nuts, meat, cheese, and beans. Your body reacts to protein differently than it reacts to carbohydrates (although they are important too). Enough protein creates a sense of fullness. Women need about 50 grams of protein daily and Men need about 63 grams.

What this means is that you want to consume a serving of lean protein at every meal, including breakfast. At breakfast it is as easy as adding a handful of nuts to your favorite whole grain cereal.

#2 Eat food that is high in fiber and water.

Eating food that is high in fiber and water creates a sense of fullness and satisfaction for much fewer calories than eating foods that are calorie dense (like desserts).

What kind of foods are high in fiber and water? Whole grains, like those found in whole grain cereals, bread, and pasta - be sure to read your labels. Soups, especially if they have a lot of vegetables are a great source of nutrition for minimal calories. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is also a great way to fill up on yummy foods that are also excellent for you.

#3 Drop drinks with calories.

One of the best ways to start feeling better right away and to start losing weight, is to replace your drinks with calories - soda, beer, wine, juice, ect. - with no calorie drinks. Some of the drinks that work well are green tea, coffee, & water.

This may seem like a big sacrifice at first, but it does get easier as time goes by. If this step seems too difficult then take it one drink at a time. Start with one drink a day and replace it with a no calorie drink. Do this once a week and you will begin to see a difference almost immediately.

Foods That Speed Metabolism - And Taste Great

zz
You've probably been hearing a lot these days about the benefits of certain foods that speed metabolism. Exactly what are the best foods to take in order to boost your metabolism?

One of the food items that has gotten a ton of exposure lately for it's great health benefits is Omega-3 fats or fish oil. Omega-3 is well known for helping the heart, lowering blood pressure, joint health, etc. Well, it looks like you can add weight loss to that list of benefits.

The best ways to add Omega-3 fats to your diet is by eating cold water fish like salmon or by taking a good fish oil supplement that has 1-2 grams of long chain Omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseed oil is also a great source (and perfect for vegetarians.) Most fish oil capsules come in 1000 mg, so taking 5 per day would give you 1.5 grams which is about right for most people.

Another food group that boosts your metabolism is lean protein. This is because lean protein takes longer to digest, which means your metabolism is burning faster. Also, plenty of lean protein is crucial for the development and maintenance of muscle. More muscle equals a faster resting metabolism... this means your body is burning fat 24 hours per day, even while you are sleeping!

Some good lean protein sources include:

*Fish
*Chicken
*Turkey
*Lean beef
*Cottage cheese
*Yogurt

Omega-3 fats and lean protein are foods that speed metabolism. The best approach is to combine smart eating with a well planned exercise program. I suggest finding an expert with a proven track record of helping people get fit. There is a science to burning fat and getting in shape. If you do things a certain way, you'll get predictable results. Just don't get lost in the sea of mis-information and fad diets that are out floating around out there.

Three Truths About Low-fat, Low-Sugar Foods And Obesity

zz
1. If sugar free foods help weight loss, then why does the US which has the greatest consumption of these foods have the highest incidence of obesity?

2. If very low fat and fat-free products aid weight loss, then why does the US which markets the largest range of Low-fat foods have the fattest population?

3. If people are obese because of their genetic heritage, then why are people fatter now than at any other point in history?

1. When the sugar is removed from 'diet' or 'healthy choice' foods to make them less calorific, it is replaced with artificial sweeteners. These chemicals contain no calories but are many times sweeter than sugar. Intense sweetness tricks the brain; the strongly flavoured snack delivers few calories, and may set up a craving for other foods high in natural sugars. The sugar-free snack can encourage the person to eat more; studies have shown that individuals who choose drinks containing artificial sweeteners go on to eat more food than usual at subsequent meals. It is also thought that the intense flavours dull the sense of taste so that a sweet snack such as a piece of fruit becomes less 'tasty' and satisfying; the body begins to crave the stronger flavours found in highly processed and highly calorific foods. Studies have shown that children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of sweeteners; it is much healthier to give smaller amounts of naturally sweetened foods to children, and bin everything (including drinks) with artificial sweeteners in.

2. Fat makes a mouthful of food feel good; the eating experience is more pleasurable. Think of the difference between a dry cracker, and a cracker thickly spread with butter or cheese. Low-fat foods are stripped of their fat, and therefore less pleasurable. Do you want to spend money on food which is much less good to eat than something else? No, so the food companies cram sugar, salt, bulking agents, flavour enhancers and artificial flavours by the bucket-full into low-fat products. Not only is this an unhealthy choice, but people almost always eat more of a low-fat food than its full-fat friend (oh it's low-fat, I may as well have another one... and another...). People who choose low-fat foods consume around 28% more calories than those who go for the regular fatty food. It is important to remember that a diet rich in fats is extremely important to health; it is the type of fat you eat which is important; go for olive oil, avocadoes, nuts, seeds and oily fish.

3. Many people believe that their weight is determined by their genetic heritage (I have moaned about this in the past, while consoling myself with a packet of custard creams). From time to time research will pop up about a 'fat gene,' and there is no doubt that your genetic profile will influence your size and shape. This does not however explain the very recent obesity problem. The fattest nation is the US where the genetic heritage is drawn from most countries of the world; the common denominator is the bad diet and decreasing activity levels. A study was made into the Pima Indians; a genetic group half of whom live in Arizona and have adopted a western lifestyle and diet, and half of whom maintain a traditional farming lifestyle and diet in the Sierra Madre mountains. It will not surprise you to learn that the group with the Western lifestyle have suffered from an epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes where as their cousins who still work the land and eat traditional foods have a low incidence of obesity and related problems. The message is that some people do have a genetically predetermined risk of becoming overweight and suffering from related illnesses when exposed to unhealthy eating and a sedentary lifestyle. For this group it is imperative that they spurn processed foods, and exercise regularly (instead of weeping into a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows).

Wishing to keep a healthy and balanced weight is about making choices in the way that you live; eating a fresh, healthy and balanced diet; removing processed foods and increasing activity levels. Substituting 'bad' foods for diet foods does nothing to reeducate the body and mind away from the need to comfort eat, self-reward and 'indulge.' Eating low-sugar and low-fat foods may make us feel so virtuous, that we let a jumbo Toblerone slip down (well I have been so good all week) or eat a little too well at meal times. Diet foods are a lie; they are not healthy and encourage us to believe that we can have what we want without paying the consequences, but the joke is that they will probably make you fatter in the end. Genetics cannot be blamed for weight-gain; fat is laid down when the amount of calories going in is greater than the amount of calories going out. The answer is to eat a diet consisting of freshly prepared unprocessed foods and to stay as active as possible. Don't cheat yourself with diet foods, question your need for biscuits, cakes or crisps and choose a healthy alternative; a bowl of strawberries and a spoon of natural yoghurt is truly tastier than a low-fat chocolate pudding, and you can have seconds!

The Importance of Eating a Balanced Diet - Carbohydrates, Fats and Proteins

zz
Do you know where your calories come from? For most normal people, their calories are supplied by carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The only difference is the ratio each type of food contributes to these calories. Unlike popular perception, any excess calories you do not use up gets converted to body fat. So, even if you eat a completely fat-free all-fruit diet, you can still get fat if you do not get enough exercise. On the other hand, if you are on some extreme form of Atkins diet with high protein and high fat, do add some carbohydrates to your diet. Without this carbohydrate, you will likely feel listless and enervated, because fat needs a bit of carbohydrate to be properly consumed.

Even if you expect to get most of your energy from protein, as long as there is fat in your diet, make sure you include a little bit of carbohydrates as well. If you fail to do this, acid products will accumulate from the incomplete conversion of fat. This will eventually lead to untoward results. Fortunately, it does not mean that you have to eat rice, or bread, or french fries together with your steak. Fruits can provide the carbohydrates you need. Or even a small, sweet dessert can do the trick. Of course, when you add that dessert to your meal, please remember to cut down on your steak. The key to losing weight is to eat less calories than you burn everyday.

Now, what if you are on an extreme vegan no-fat diet? Unless your doctor recommended this diet to address a particular health problem, I would advise you to add some fat to your diet. Animal experiments conducted by scientists have shown that fat-free diets produce kidney diseases and an alarming disinterest in the opposite sex. In other words, fats are essential to normal nutrition.

In general, there is no excuse to completely eliminate protein from your diet. Even on a vegan diet, there are certain nuts and beans you should add to your diet to ensure that you have an adequate supply of protein. You may ask, "Why do I need protein in my diet?" There are three reasons. Firstly, together with carbohydrates and fats, proteins also provides the energy you need for your daily living.

Secondly, protein is the building block of your body. After exercise, and even in your normal day-to-day life, your muscle tissue will die out. Not just the muscles in your arms and legs, but the muscles in your internal organs. You need protein to rebuild these muscles. The third and most important reason is that proteins provide the amino acids needed to create the hormones and neurotransmitters in your body and mind. Basically, an imbalanced diet with too much or too little protein could lead to problems like acne, impotence, infertility, slowness of thought, timidity or over-aggression.

Overall, if you are reducing weight with a DIY diet plan, you should make sure you have a balanced diet. Your calories need to come from carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Just remember to eat a bit less and exercise a bit more and you will definitely lose weight.

Vegetarian Diet Destroys Toxins

zz
It has been known for a long time that detoxification and cleansing your body of harmful toxins is one of the many advantages of any vegetarian diet.

It can be argued that human beings are not carnivorous. The carnivores in the animal world have sharp teeth and sweat through the mouth, not through the pores.

As human beings, we have rounded or squared off teeth as do the herbivore animals (similar to the teeth of a deer for instance) and we sweat through the pores, not the mouth of course.

The build up of toxins in the colon and in the arteries is a by-product of a carnivorous diet. Not only do our bodies struggle to digest the meat, a carnivorous diet, along with the many processed foods we eat on a daily basis actually cause interference with the digestive system, and as a consequence also throws off our elimination processes. The efficiency of our digestive system is critical and will affect our overall health.

What happens is over time harmful bacteria and toxins accumulate and will create a feeling of sluggishness and low energy, and possibly other digestive disorders will come into play such as colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Switching to a vegetarian diet introduces more dietary fiber into our systems and this fiber, along with the vastly more nutritional vegetarian foods, will kick start the digestive system and will benefit every other system in our bodies too. With a vegetarian diet the body is cleansed. Your blood, your mind and your organs become clearer, and you will also lose weight without trying.

Toxicity is of much greater concern now than ever before. We are exposed to an amazing number of toxins, in the air, in the chemicals we use everyday, in the water and then we have radiation from various sources. The last thing we need to do through our diets is ingest even more chemicals via hormones and chemicals in meat and milk, and the veritable array of chemicals in refined foods (take a look at the ingredients in your maple syrup - there is no maple involved).

As a result, the incidence of many toxicity related diseases has increased as well. Cancer and cardiovascular disease are two of many. Allergies, obesity, and many skin problems are among others. In addition, a wide range of symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, pains, gastrointestinal problems, and immune weakness, can all be caused by toxicity.

When you start a vegetarian diet, your body starts detoxifying and throws off these toxins and cleanses itself. There are now many vegetarian food substitutes too, such as bacon and beef substitutes that taste like the real thing.

So a vegetarian diet is worthy of consideration for anyone who wants to stay healthy for the duration. The advantages are obvious. You will feel better, look better, and lose weight without even trying.

What Is The Difference Between Nutrisystem Advanced And Nutrisystem Nourish?

zz
It can get really confusing when diet plans change the name of their programs or foods. I am often asked what is the difference between the Nutrisytem's Advanced or Nourish programs. People want to know which they should chose.

The truth is, Nutrisystem Nourish is no longer available, so you couldn't chose this one even if you wanted to. The Advanced program has replaced it. Basically, the company has just revamped their weight loss program, added new foods, motivation, counseling, and exercise videos.

Additionally, Tori Spelling (who is now pregnant with her second child and obviously can not be dieting) has been replaced with Jillian Barberie and Marie Osmond who have both lost over 40 pounds.

On the new program, you still eat five times per day and you still eat the company's pre made meals and add your own low fat additions. There are still carb friendly comfort foods, snacks, and desserts. (There are still over 130 choices including pizza, tacos, macaroni and cheese, nachos, and many desserts.)

In my opinion though, the Advanced changes are improvements. I feel you are really getting a lot more for your money. They have added free weight loss counseling. This is a huge benefit. If you've ever looked at weight loss online or Jenny Craig, you know these programs are more expensive or have monthly fees in order to pay for this support. This is completely free with Nutrisystem. You are only paying for your food. Online forums, articles, and support has always been available, but now you can either email, live online chat, or personally call a weight loss counselor at no cost.

Also, they now include free motivational literature and exercise DVDs with every monthly order. This makes this diet plan more about a lifestyle change rather than just changing your eating habits. I believe this increases the rate of and length of success.

Finally, omega fatty acids and fiber have been added to the foods. This is suppose to help your heart and give you a feeling of being full. Also, a few new food choices have been added. I don't find that the food tastes much different. I've always found the taste quite good for the most part and I still do. At this point, I am used to the portion size and I am not usually hungry after eating, so I can not really say if it is more filling.

Ava Alderman is the author of the free ebook "Getting The Most Out Of Nutrisystem," which includes detailed information about how to be successful with this diet, a three weeks free coupon, motivation, and tips to ensure the most dramatic results. How Effective Is Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss?

zz

Apple cider vinegar has been in use for weight loss for many centuries. The ancient Egyptians had a theory that enough vinegar in your body would prevent your body from absorbing oils or fats. In those days that theory was cutting edge weight-loss technology.

Some products sold on the market today still ride on this ancient theory. People also think about salad dressing and how the oil and vinegar in the dressing do not mix. They take that as some kind of proof that the vinegar would somehow prevent the oil from turning into fat in your body.

Modern scientific studies have not found any conclusive proof that apple cider vinegar has any substantial effect on weight loss. In a similar vein, apple cider vinegar also does not have a substantial effect on weight gain.

However, there is a way that apple cider vinegar can hamper your weight-loss efforts.

If you take apple cider vinegar with the belief that it enables you to eat whatever you want without gaining weight, then apple cider vinegar will definitely make you "gain weight."

The real problem of apple cider vinegar is not the vinegar itself but the false sense of security that is being sold by many merchants today.

You can find many sites that make promises of how a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar will help your body burn calories 24 hours a day. Even though the apple cider vinegar would not be bad for your body, scientific studies do not support many of these claims.

In its purest form apple cider vinegar would probably not give you any benefits above the normal benefits of fruits.

If you scrutinize the claims made by many apple cider vinegar merchants you will often find them saying that the product alone will not make you lose weight and that you need to combine it with proper exercise and a sensible diet.

Until scientific studies cast new light on it, you can reasonably assume that apple cider vinegar will do very little for your weight-loss efforts.

Tisha Diaz recommends this fat loss and weight control program that will help you get rid of those excess pounds and make you slim and trim.

Choose to Lose - The Simplicity of Weight Loss and Understanding Emotional Eating

zz
Permanent Weight loss is not about Diet. If you are looking for the latest pill, magic potion or perhaps some celebrity’s amazing secrets, then you’ve come to the wrong page. However, at some point you will be back because at some point you will realize that unless you address the cause and the truth about your eating habits you will end up on the merry-go-round again. There are many products and services promising fantastic results. Some are good, most are average, usually they cost more than they are worth, and some are outright dangerous. Losing weight is a simple matter of either decreasing calorie intake or increasing energy output. Most people combine both to achieve fast results.

Most people have tried this method often enough to know that it works and I have found that most dieters know more about food than anyone else. My main aim is to address the many causes of weight gain and focus on the creation of new habits in order to bring about permanent weight loss maintenance.

I once worked in a very innovative weight loss clinic. The programme focused on Nutrition, Relaxation Techniques, and Psychology. I was a counsellor at the time and worked there for almost 10 years. Although I was working as an expert, I think I learned more from my clients than I did from my textbooks. I counselled thousands of people over the years and it became very obvious to me that they all had a lot in common. Almost without exception they all had an emotional connection or response to food. Their eating habits had become an automatic response. They all knew a lot about food and calories and they all knew how to lose weight. They had all lost weight and regained it a number of times. This we referred to as the “yo-yo syndrome”.

If you happen to be one of the very few people who do not understand diet, I will lightly touch on it to give you a crash course in weight loss. The most important thing I learned about diet in relationship to losing weight is this:

There is no such thing as a fattening food.

No one food is either fattening or slimming. It’s this simple: Food contains calories, calories are units of energy. There are no fat calories or thin calories, 2000 cake calories are exactly the same as 2000 celery calories. Calories are burned by the body to produce energy. Just being alive burns calories. However, the more active the body the bigger the burn. If you burn the same amount of calories as you eat then your weight will remain the same. If you eat 3000 calories and burn 2000 then 1000 are stored. (as fat)

It’s the same as banking; if you put $100 in your account and only spend $80 then $20 is saved. If you did this for 10 weeks then $200 will be saved. Overweight people do not necessarily eat a huge amount of food or a huge amount of, ‘bad food’, they simply consume more calories than they need. The unused calories are then stored in the body as fat. If you put too few calories in, the body will take the stored calories (fat) and use that for energy, thereby, creating weight loss.

I am not going to go to any great length to discuss food or diet on these pages. It is my experience that overweight people know as much as I do about food and calories. If you wish to know more about food or nutrition there are many books available. (See the links page.)

One point I do wish to make about food is this: Vitamins, Minerals, Protein, Carbohydrate, Fat, etc. are vital to maintaining health. Foods heal, build and repair. Foods balance your metabolism and produce energy and well-being. You will not get fat from eating cakes and drinking soda, however, if you are putting in calories that have little or no nutritional content, you will become tired, depressed, unmotivated and ultimately, very sick.

When you decide to use fat storage for energy you will lose weight. As in the banking analogy above, put less in and use more, then you will burn up the balance.

Let’s say your weight maintenance requires 2000 calories a day. You decide to put in 1000 a day; your body will then rob the fat stores of 1000. This is where food choices are most important. Because you are reducing the calorie intake by 1000, you need to be very diligent about getting the maximum amount of nutritional benefit from the food you eat.

Most diets emphasis fresh fruit, salad, grilled or boiled fish or chicken etc; not because these foods are thinning, but because they have the most amount of food value (nutrition) for the calories.

High nutritional foods give you vitality and well-being. Low nutritional food will make you feel tired, grumpy, and unmotivated (making it more likely to binge eat).

Reducing calories will get you to your ideal weight. The purpose of this page is not to motivate a diet; this is about looking at long-term habits and changing those habits so that your future behaviour will become automatic, without conscious thought or will- power. By following the guidelines below you will lose weight, keep it off, and maintain health, vitality, and well-being.

Your weight can be about many things or a combination of many things. Overeating may be part of the problem, but what is the cause of overeating? Your reasons may be unique, but many of the common causes are:

Boredom,
Depression,
Fear,
Tiredness,
Loneliness,
And Tension.

Many facets are related to body image, self-esteem, and even sexual issues.

You may, on a very logical level, desire a thinner body. However, subconsciously you may associate being normal or comfortable with the shape of your mother, siblings, or friends. If you are a wife or mother yourself, you may subconsciously feel that your body image should not suggest you are a single or available woman. Sometimes becoming a wife and mother creates conflict with being sexually attractive to other men. Maybe being a good mother requires a motherly look?

Some people feel safer or stronger by being bigger and may panic or feel insecure when they have lost weight. Sometimes weight can be thought of as being ‘Big’. If you have a history of being bullied or made to feel small in some way you may use this ‘Being Big Image’.

Being overweight can often be used to repress sexuality. Teenage girls often find sexual advances intimidating and sub-consciously put on weight as a barrier, which continues throughout life.

If your sex life is unsatisfying you may unconsciously use your weight as a turn off. Maybe you are so self-conscious about your weight that you deny yourself your sexuality. Some women who have experienced sexual abuse will use their weight as a sexual defence or a personal barrier.

Binge eating is usually about punishment; this is very common in high achievers. (Anorexics and Bulimics are often in this category as well.) Bingeing is about trying to get it perfect and then destroying all effort if there is a slight slip up. This is the ‘All or None Approach’.

Binge eating is also very common with Pre-Menstrual-Syndrome. P.M.S. can cause women to be emotionally fragile. Their thinking can be fuzzy, their body may retain fluid meaning their body feels fatter or bloated. There is discomfort in the stomach area and sugar cravings are common. If you are serious about long-term weight maintenance you must be prepared for this. You must plan alternative actions; like being kind to yourself, more flexible, self-loving and forgiving. Keep a calendar and be prepared before you hit crisis point.

Eating Emotions.
Some people find they that have an emotional attachment to food. If you were rewarded with sweets for good behaviour or sent to your room without dinner for bad behaviour, you may very well be treating food as a reward or a punishment. Your eating habits may have become confused with approval or disapproval.

If your family was poor you may equate food with being prosperous or successful.

For most people the stomach area is the emotional centre of the body. Stress, worry, fear and unhappiness will create tightness there. Often overeating is an automatic response to releasing this tension.

Observe yourself for a few weeks and you will notice how easy and common it is to push food down into the tightness of your stomach area when you are stressed.

You may use food to release and stretch the area, this is particularly obvious in a binge eating session.

Food can nurture and food can provide comfort. By detached observation you learn a lot about yourself and your food habits. Watch yourself without judging yourself for a few weeks and you’ll be amazed at how often you are feeding your emotions

I am only touching lightly on some of the issues here. I hope this information may lead you to considering some of the many facets that create a habit. Some of the issues will be common to most people or at least make you start thinking about your own unique psychological make up.

By understanding your eating behaviour you will be in a better position to bring about permanent changes and lose weight without great effort.

There are some basic principles that need to be addressed and explored if you sincerely wish to lose weight and keep it off.

Food
Eating well means providing your body with the highest nutritional values. If your nutritional needs are not met, you will quickly become tired, unhappy and unwell. The right foods help to rebuild and repair your body, increase energy, improve immune function, detoxify, build muscle tissue and eliminate waste products. Most importantly, the food you eat can influence how you feel. How you feel influences your behaviour. Within just a week or two you may be happier, more energised, more motivated and slimmer. From this point the food thing becomes easier and easier.

The foods you choose need to be enjoyable. There are many options and a huge variety of choices. Don’t eat things you hate just because they are low-cal. The money you save on some things can be put back into more expensive and enjoyable options.

If you reduce the quantity then increase the quality; swap sausage for crayfish, biscuits for mangoes. If you like seafood then buy oysters, prawns, smoked salmon and expensive fish. Don’t just eat lettuce and carrots; explore all the fruits and vegetables.

Make your food delicious and special; cook with herbs and spices; garlic, chilli, basil, or coriander etc. Turn ordinary food into something special.

Keep a good veggie soup in the kitchen for those times when you will be tired, cold and starving. Soup is quick, hot, and filling.

Eat less and more often. Large meals zap your energy. Too much food, particularly high in animal fat or too many protein combinations, will almost put you to sleep. Remember that being tired physically or mentally will be the biggest enemy to your success.

Diet Fads.
Dieting is the easiest thing in the world to understand. I have previously pointed out that you need to put fewer calories in or more energy out. Eat high nutrition and eliminate or greatly reduce empty calories.

Eat 5 serves of vegetables a day and at least 2 pieces of fruit. Minimize or eliminate fat, sugar and flour. How simple is that?

All diets will have this information within their content, but to sell a magazine, pill, potion, video or book you will be led into some spin on ‘Scientific Research’ and some fancy talk justifying its merit. This is not about you, this is about selling a product.

For the Kids.
You do not ever need to have ‘Junk Food’ in your Home. If you make a conscious decision to eat junk food, then at least make yourself go out of your way to get it. If you need to walk to the shop to get a chocolate then you may just have a little time to re-consider it. No one is so strong willed that they will not go reaching for ice cream on a stinking hot day. Who wouldn't be temped to grab a slice of cake if it's sitting in the fridge every time you open it? If it's in your home you will eat it by impulse.

If you really want it, make a conscious decision to eat it, enjoy it and then forget it.

But don't just grab stuff just because it's there. Almost every dieter I have spoken to says, "I need to have it there for the kids".

The eating habits of your children will become the eating habits they will carry throughout their lives. Do you really want your daughter going through what you have gone through? Are you depriving your child of sweets or are you depriving your child of adult obesity?

If you were giving up smoking or alcohol, would you leave cigarettes and a bottle of scotch around just in case the kids might enjoy them? Would you reason that just because you are giving up smoking it’s not fair to make your children go without something they may enjoy?

The habits that kids learn in childhood are the habits they carry for life.

When your 25 yr old son is lying in the Coronary ward of the hospital, are you really going to say, "I thought I was being kind by giving you treats?"

When your 30 yr old Daughter is 100 lb overweight and won't leave the house any more, will you convince her, you were being loving?

Heart disease, Diabetes, Menopause, Obesity and Infertility are now being seen in very young people through-out the Western World and most Doctors will point the finger at one cause: Diet.

Habit. A habit is a behaviour that is repeated to such a degree that the sub-conscious mind computes the entirety of the information and creates an automatic behaviour. Eating habits are usually formed in childhood and changes will require conscious awareness, alternative reactions, and repetition of new behaviours. Ultimately your new eating habits will become your new automatic behaviour.

The goal is to get to the point where you do not think about food at all. The amount of food and the type of food you are used to are already set habits. The time of day you eat is also a habit.

What you may not have explored before are the emotional habits that drive your decisions. Food can pick you up when you are feeling tired or out of sorts, food can calm you down when stressed or anxious, food can replace boredom or loneliness. Food is used as a celebration, a reward, a comfort and an expression of friendship. Food can also be used as a punishment.

Most people do not break their diets because they are hungry. Most diets are broken because of the sense of losing an emotional crutch. In a way, food has become a lifelong friend and quite often dieting feels like losing a friend.

To successfully change and maintain a habit, you must know what your emotional connections are and have in place better alternatives. Food is a short-term diversion, and within an hour or two your stress or boredom will still be there plus the disappointment and remorse of having failed.

Seriously, food does not reduce anxiety, it will mask it for a while, but unless you pin point your issues you will keep yourself in this cycle.

Stress needs to be addressed at the onset not swallowed at the crisis point.

Don’t eat your anger! Consider this: Every pound of body fat could well be the weight and shape of last year's disappointments.

Body Image. Your body is the most valuable asset you have. It is smarter than any computer, there is no scientist, doctor or chemist able to heal, repair, or protect you like your own body can, it is your home and your vehicle. There is no person and no thing in this entire Universe that will serve or protect you like your own body. Your life, freedom, happiness, pleasure, vitality, and health are all gifts to you from your body.

The most amazing thing to realize is that most people disrespect and sometimes even hate their bodies. Many people poison their own bodies. Certainly in our culture we have somehow taken on big fat lies about our bodies.

Stop for a moment right now and consider your attitude to your body. Is there a sense of shame? When you think or speak about your body, is there respect and admiration or self-loathing, criticism and indifference?

If you apply truth and logic, you will know (or you will come to know) that your body is the most fascinating, intelligent, and valuable possession you have.

You may spend most of your income on your houses and cars, yet neither will compare to your own body. You probably design, renovate, and maintain your home with unlimited commitment and yet you won't consider how little your body asks and how much your body does.

Your body requires air, water, food, sleep and movement, and that’s all!

Think about what your body will do for you in return for these few simple requirements. Do you fill your car with sugar? Is your house filled with toxic matter and garbage? How much time, effort, and thought go into the décor of your home compared to the consideration of your own body? Surely you can see the reality of what I'm saying.

How much body disrespect has your weight created? Think about the unloving thoughts and feelings you have directed at your body.

Weight is simply too much body fat kept in storage; it's no big deal!

Have you ever really stopped to consider the billions of wonderful processes within your body or do you simply focus on fat and divorce your body from yourself?

Eating Lies. Lies, or BS as we affectionately refer to them, are the single most fattening things you ever swallow.

In the past few decades BS has become fact and fact is no longer considered. We have all been conned into believing that our own self-worth is created by how we look, what we do for a living and how much we earn. Advertising, media and marketing have taken over truth and common sense. If there is a buck to be made, then the marketing people can convince us of anything. Look at how bombarded we have become with the beauty myth. We starve ourselves, surgically remove body parts, and practise acts of self-abuse in the great quest of beauty.

Be Beautiful and you will be happy and valued. Rubbish! Take 2 minutes to think about the 5 most important people in your life. Consider your reasons for their value, I am sure that being good looking or thin does not even come in to it.

There is a lot of money to be made by others from your believing that you are unattractive, unacceptable or unlovable. Think about it, who in their right mind would buy a $500 bottle of perfume simply to seduce a man? When was the last time you smelled aftershave and were overtaken by sexual desire? We spend thousands of dollars on health spas and convince ourselves that rolling around in mud will make us beautiful. Look in your cosmetic cabinet and see the money spent on all those potions. Do you look like a movie star?

Think about the books, pills, supplements, clubs memberships and machinery you have purchased to lose weight.

Don't allow your self-worth to be manipulated by propaganda and clever marketing.

Stop getting caught up in one or two minor imperfections. Change only the things that you yourself decide to work on. Don’t take on other people’s neurotic concepts about yourself. If you lose weight for your own reasons, with your own values and within your own truth, it will be easy.

When losing weight becomes a gift you give yourself, because you love yourself, it will be achieved effortlessly and with pleasure. Copyright Sonya Green www.reinventingmyself.com

Celebrity Weight Loss - How You Can Use The Diet And Weight Loss Programs Of The Stars

zz
Why is it that celebrities always seem to be thinner, sexier and more beautiful that us? What weight loss secrets do they use to get that way? Is it a diet, a diet pill, Weight Watchers, or what? It seems that if we could only get the inside information on the new celebrity weight loss program or weight loss pill, then we’d be almost guaranteed to experience fast weight loss of our own.

Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Denise Richards, Janet Jackson, Daryl Hannah, Whitney Houston, Kirstie Alley and many other celebrities have all been in the news lately because of their own personal weight issues. This article looks at what weight loss strategies have worked for these and other celebrities, and how we can apply these same tactics to our own situation.

-> First Of All, Celebrities Don’t Always Get It Right:

Before we go any further with this discussion, it’s important to note that the stars aren’t always successful in their weight loss efforts.

A 5’ 4” Janet Jackson weighed in at a slim 117 pounds in May 2002, but three years later had climbed to a too-high 160 pounds. Kirstie Alley, only 5’ 8” tall, weighed 207 pounds as recently as October 2004 (source: STAR Magazine 11-14-05). And who can forget those unpleasant pictures of Anna Nicole Smith?

Most celebrities have had the same weight issues we’ve all experienced. The difference is that, with paparazi hanging around all the time, when the stars gain some extra fat everyone in America knows about it.

-> Most Celebrities Are Thinner Than Us:

Despite the few celebrity weight loss failures, there’s no denying that most celebrities look better than we do. Models, for example, are 23 percent leaner than the average (source: annecollins.com). Perhaps their trim appearance is part of the reason why we, as a nation, have such a fascination with the celebrity lifestyle.

Indeed, we typically reward and idolize the more slender celebrities. Just a quick look at People Magazine’s list of the ‘50 Most Beautiful People 2005’ reveals that only the lean made the list. People’s ’Most Beautiful Women of 2005’ list reveals the same thing – celebrities (at least the popular ones) are more thin than we are.

Even when we do find a celebrity that doesn’t look like a stick figure, invariably we find that they have recently lost some weight. “No longer a crash dieter, Oprah Winfrey…..who at her heaviest was 237 lbs., has been eating right, sticking to lean protein and hitting the gym as she aims for her "safe zone" in the 150-lb. range. "Maybe for the first time, she's doing it for all the right reasons," says trainer Bob Greene of the talk-show queen's workouts (source: people.aol.com).

-> Celebrities Make Weight Loss Mistakes, Too:

To be completely honest and straightforward, if there’s a diet program out there that doesn’t work, the stars will find it. With an almost unlimited budget, celebrities are willing to try every fat burner and fat loss gimmick that hits the market. Rather than look for the best weight loss program, many stars look instead for just easy weight loss. Consider the following examples of the goofy things celebrities have tried to lose weight fast:

“Toccara Jones, former "America's Next Top Model" contestant, and Wendy Kaufman, the Snapple® lady, who also participated in the first "Fit Club," agree to try a New Age weight-loss procedure without knowing what it is. They arrive at Soothing Solutions in Burbank, CA, to discover that they have signed on for a colonic. "We gently flow water in and out of your colon and it flushes everything out," the attendant tells them” (source: et.tv.yahoo.com).

“Jani Lane, lead singer of the rock group Warrant, who sustained an injury when the Fit Club was boxing, goes to Eden Surgical Center in Calabasas, CA, and undergoes a needle injection. It is a process which liquefies the fat so the cells shrink. Then came the emotional weigh-in. A few of the celebs made their weight-loss goal, most didn't and a few even gained weight” (source: et.tv.yahoo.com).

-> How Do They Do It?

Even though celebrities do make diet and nutrition mistakes, the majority of them are still thinner than us. So how do the stars achieve quick weight loss when we battle and fight just to lose a few pounds? Is there some secret weight loss product or weight loss plan they’re keeping hidden from us?

The secret is that there is no secret. Celebrities try the same diets we have, including the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, the Atkins Diet and countless others. There is no mysterious diet plan or diet product that works for every celebrity all the time, just as there is no such plan that will work for every one of us. (For more information on this topic, see our e-book titled "Fast And Easy Weight Loss Using Diet Programs And Diet Pills" by going to http://www.letspickupthepace.com/ and clicking on Pick Up The Pace Store.)

Celebrities that are successful in achieving a healthy weight loss generally do so with a nutritious weight loss diet and regular exercise. Take a look at these examples:

"I think Oprah Winfrey wins the weight battle of 2004 -- she looks fabulous…..Look at her, she's never looked better. She's been skinnier -- that's true -- but she's never looked better." "Oprah should set the standard for Hollywood weight loss," Paula says. "She's been very open about it. She's been up, she's been down, she's been wide, she's been skinny." She continues: "She didn't do the surgery and she doesn't really do the fad diets. She eats healthy, she has a personal trainer and she works really hard at it" (source: et.tv.yahoo.com).

Denise Richards put on 30 lbs. while carrying Lola (born June 1), but Richards had a secret weight-loss weapon: “It’s called the Stress Diet,” she says, half-joking, – and alluding to having filed for divorce (from Charlie Sheen) in her sixth month of pregnancy. But mostly she can thank her work with trainer Garrett Warren: She's been kickboxing and doing abdominal exercises four to six times weekly – and adhering to a portion-controlled diet (source: celebrity.aol.com).

"All eyes were on the miraculous weight loss of Hollywood in 2004," Paula says. "But there's no real miracle about it, it's exercise, it's eating right and sometimes -- it's surgery!" (Source: et.tv.yahoo.com).

-> Why Does It Work For Them And Not For Us?

It’s no surprise that eating the right foods and exercising regularly will help us achieve our ideal weight. So why is it that celebrities seem to have so much more success than we do? There are three reasons why the stars lose weight faster than the average American: * Celebrities have more time than we do.

* Celebrities have more money than we do.

* Celebrities have a bigger incentive to stay fit and trim.

Although they do work long hours while touring or filming, there’s no denying that the stars have more disposable time than we do. When you’re rich enough to hire a nanny, a driver, a personal chef and many other assistants to take over the time-consuming tasks of life for you, it’s easy to find more time to exercise.

“Singer Jessica Simpson started a new exercise routine to get in shape for her role as Daisy Duke in the upcoming Dukes of Hazard movie. Her workout includes two hours a day of squats and lunges and has motivated her to create a new workout video. "I have a white-girl bootie, so I'm doing all my squats to lift it a little bit and get some junk in my trunk," says Jessica (source: kidzworld.com).

“Usher's been workin' on his abs since he was 16, but claims that it's all because of good genes…..hard work and being disciplined - oh yeah, and 1,000 crunches a day. Usher also has a daily routine he calls "forty minutes of funk" which includes stretchin', skippin' and jumping jacks. Then he moves onto push-ups, leg raises and tricep dips…..can you say fitness freak!” (source: kidzworld.com).

Not only do celebrities have the time to exercise for hours on end, but they typically have the money to hire the absolute best weight loss support team. Julia Roberts, for example, earns an estimated $25,000,000 each year. Cameron Diaz earns $20,000,000 annually. Angelina Jolie pulls down about $12,000,000 each year and Reese Witherspoon gets a $15,000,000 yearly paycheck (source: bankrate.com). With that much cash on hand, the stars can easily afford to hire the best personal trainers, the best nutritionists, the best dietitians and the best personal chefs.

“Celebrities also have the luxury of personal trainers and nutritionists to help them with rigorous diet regimes” (source: abcnews.go.com).

With a personal chef to prepare every meal, celebrities find it easier to follow a low fat diet. A registered dietitian in the house makes it easy for stars to get a unique diet recipe or any other weight loss information they want. Simply put, having the salary of a celebrity makes it easier to lose weight.

Indeed, it’s that same high salary that gives celebrities their incredible incentive to stay slender. The blunt truth of the matter is that Hollywood and the entertainment industry is not kind to overweight stars, often shunning them in favor of ‘thin beauty’. Celebrities see a very real connection between their weight and their earnings power, which gives them the motivation they need to keep trying when many others would give up.

Statistics show that approximately two-thirds of Americans are overweight. Research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that 80 percent of overweight individuals and almost 87 percent of obese individuals are trying to lose or maintain their weight. As a nation, we’re trying to win the battle of the bulge, but we often lack the motivation to consistently exercise and eat right. How much easier would that struggle be if there were a $25,000,000 prize waiting for us when we reached our goal weight?

-> How We Can Use The Diet And Weight Loss Programs Of The Stars:

Although most Americans can’t afford the same support staff hired by the celebrities, we can learn from their success and use that information to achieve our own health and fitness goals. Here’s what we can do to copy the weight control tactics of celebrities:

* Find an exercise program that takes less time.
*Search for free diet information and free weight loss information.
* Earn and keep more money by losing weight.

First of all, it’s time to face reality that most of us will never have hours each day to dedicate to exercise like the celebrities do. That’s not an excuse to quit! Instead, find an exercise routine that will get results in a shorter period of time. A great example is circuit training, where you get aerobic and resistance exercise at the same time. By combining these two types of workout into one, it’s entirely possible to get real fat loss results in only thirty minutes each day.

Some time-strapped celebrities use circuit training to achieve their fitness goals. Matthew McConaughey, for example, “…..was circuit training – combining cardiovascular exercise with muscle-strengthening moves…..” (source: STAR Magazine 11-14-05).

Circuit training works, especially for those of us short on time. Pick Up The Pace, 30-Minute Workout For Women, is a health club that offers hydraulic circuit training and has seen gym members accomplish incredible results. Pick Up The Pace member Minnie lost 10.5 inches during the month of February 2005! Vymell C. lost 9.5 inches the same month! Betty K. joined Pick Up The Pace in January, 2003. By September, 2004 she had lost 50 inches, and dropped from a size 18 to an 8. Stacie Y. lost 68 pounds, 54 1/4 inches, and dropped 6 sizes!

The next thing we can do to mimic celebrity weight loss success is find free diet information and free weight loss information. The truth about health and fitness is out there, and much of it is free. For example, to get more than fifty pages of free weight loss tips check out http://www.letspickupthepace.com/articles.asp. For those seeking information on rapid weight loss, it’s also a good idea to subscribe to free health and fitness newsletters like the one found at http://www.letspickupthepace.com/newsletter.asp.

Finally, we can copy celebrity weight loss by giving ourselves a real cash incentive to lose weight. While we probably won’t ever hit that $25,000,000 payday, we can earn and keep more money by losing weight. It's true! Losing weight will help us earn and save more money. "Studies have consistently shown that obese employees are paid less than normal-weight employees doing similar jobs" (source: HealthNewsDigest.com).

A comprehensive study of wages in 1998 found that obese workers earn significantly less than than non-obese employees. How much less? About $3.41 per hour! This discrepancy was found only in those workers who had employer-sponsored health insurance, perhaps suggesting that the higher costs of insuring obese individuals was being passed on to the employees themselves. (Source: Bundorf and co-author Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at the Center for Health Policy/Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research).

So it's possible that losing weight could eventually add substantially to our paycheck! But did you know that losing weight may also lower the amount of money we personally pay out in medical costs? According to a study published in Health Affairs recently, obese Americans pay $732 more for health care each year than do normal-weight adults. Is that as much as a celebrity earns each year? Of course not – but it is a cash incentive for us to lose weight!

Celebrities will always have the advantage when it comes to weight loss. But with some extra effort we can achieve the same results!

Five Appetite Control Foods That Suppress Cravings Without Adding Calories

zz
There is a reality about weight loss that people need to be aware of. Losing weight requires you to feel hungry from time to time. There is no way to lose weight without feeling some degree of hunger. Believe me, I have exhaustively explored this issue. I have tried appetite suppressants. I have tried food combinations. I have tried meal-timing strategies. I have tried just about everything natural under the sun to eliminate those hunger pangs and food cravings that you get when you are attempting to lose weight and there is nothing that completely eliminates those cravings. Hoodia gordonii helps, as I've stated in previous articles, but it by no means turns off your hunger like a light switch.

There are many strategies that help reduce hunger: avoiding refined carbohydrates, getting plenty of natural sunlight on your skin, drinking large amounts of water on a regular basis, and getting plenty of fiber in your diet. But there is nothing that absolutely eliminates hunger. The bottom line is that if you are going to lose weight, you are going to experience hunger at one time or another. This is especially true if you, like me, engage in strength training. Nothing gets your appetite whipped into a fury like the leg press.

The key in all this is realizing there's nothing wrong with experiencing hunger from time to time. It's a normal human response to a decrease in your consumption of calories. The problem that most people encounter when they feel hungry is they feel it's some sort of emergency. It feels like they are dying or wasting away when, in fact, the body is just signaling that it doesn't have enough calories to add new fat to the fat stores it's already carrying around. The first feelings of hunger are really more of a false alarm than anything to be concerned about. At least from a logical point of view. (But when you feel like you're starving, logic goes out the window, right?)

A person who is aiming for a low percentage of body fat learns to manage their hunger so that it becomes something they can live with. In my own experience with losing weight -- and remember, I dropped 50 pounds of body fat using absolutely no drugs or pharmaceuticals of any kind -- I found that there are several "lifesaving" foods and beverages you can turn to when you are feeling intense hunger pains but you don't want to consume foods that add significant calories to your daily intake.

These foods and drinks are what I call emergency appetite control foods. What these foods and beverages have in common is that they make your stomach feel like it's full of calorie-rich foods. But in reality, you are filling your stomach with foods that contain almost no calories or carbohydrates. This way, even though your stomach is full, you are not adding calories to your intake. But your body is temporarily fooled into thinking you've just woofed down a triple-plate buffet.

In other words, if you eat two cups of cashews versus two cups of cabbage, your body can't really tell the difference for the first few minutes. Your stomach will turn off the hunger signals thinking you have eaten a large quantity of food regardless of whether you are eating cabbage or cashews, but in fact the cabbage may only contain 20 calories while the cashews contain as much as 900 or even 1000 calories. Two cups of cashews provides probably half the calories you need for the entire day, whereas two cups of cabbage provides virtually no calories whatsoever. You burn off the cabbage just digesting it. (Raw cabbage is, in fact, an outright cure for ulcers. But that's another article...)

Emergency appetite control food #1 Fresh drinking water. That's right: water is a powerful appetite suppressant and if you drink an 8-ounce glass of water when you first start feeling hungry, you will find that it suppresses your appetite in nearly every case. If you just drink a full glass of water and have the discipline to wait 10 minutes, you will find that your appetite is either completely gone or dramatically reduced.

Your next choice, if water does not do the trick for you, is to purchase a 32-ounce quart of natural, organic vegetable broth. You can get organic vegetable broth from Trader Joe's, health food stores, or even many of the finer grocery stores that have a natural health section. The key is to get organic vegetable broth that does not contain excitotoxins. These are ingredients that cause neurological disorders because they overexcite and harm nerve cells. Those ingredients are MSG, yeast extract, autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, and other similar ingredients. Warning: watch out for broth products made by Kitchen Basics. They claim their products don't contain MSG or yeast extract, but when I tried their product, I experienced a massive "MSG headache" that tells me it contains free glutamic acid that isn't listed on the label. (I'm very sensitive to MSG.) The brand of broth I buy is Trade Joe's house brand, which does not contain free glutamic acid.

You can also choose organic chicken broth if you prefer the flavor of chicken. Once you have that, simply empty the entire quart into a very large bowl, heat it up and eat it like soup. You will probably be unable to get through the entire bowl without feeling full. And how many calories have you consumed? Not 900 like you get in two cups of cashews or 1200 like in a big Mac, not even 300 calories like you get from a typical protein bar, instead you get 20 calories only. That's right: you can feel full on 20 calories by drinking an entire quart of organic vegetable broth.

Emergency appetite control food #2 The next best strategy is to turn to green vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, bokchoy, and other leafy vegetables. They have so few calories that in my own diet, I don't even count them. That's right: I allow myself to eat an unlimited quantity of any green leafy vegetables without even recording the number of calories I have consumed. In my book, they are "free" foods.

It takes just as many calories for your body to digest them as you get out of the foods themselves. And yet at the same time, they fill your stomach and make you feel full, turning off the hunger signals in your brain. You may have also heard these called "negative calorie foods."

You can consume these green leafy vegetables in a couple of ways. Most people don't like to eat them plain. Instead, you can fill up a very large bowl (I am talking about something the size of a family dinner salad bowl) with lettuce and salad greens, then add only 100 calories worth of salad dressing. You will want to find some of the lower calorie salad dressings out there, and of course you want to avoid MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, and other ingredients in salad dressings. There are many very good salad dressings that only have 25 calories per tablespoon. Using those dressings, you can put four tablespoons of salad dressing on your salad and start munching away. In a few minutes, you will feel quite full and yet will have only consumed 100 calories that count. Remember the calories for the green leafy vegetables are free. You only count the calories of the salad dressing itself. This is an excellent way to fill your stomach and turn off your hunger signals while only giving yourself 100 calories.

Another strategy that uses green leafy vegetables is to stir fry them in a pan with no oils whatsoever. Just use water and flavoring such as onions, garlic and soy sauce. Simply stir fry all the green vegetables you want, add the spices and eat it. I do not count the calories in onions or garlic either, nor do I count the calories in soy sauce since none of these spices have very high calorie density. As a result, that entire meal goes in your stomach and counts for zero calories. Once again, it's a great way to curb you appetite without consuming large quantities of calorie rich food.

Emergency appetite control food #3 This is one of my favorites: I call it my "instant banana pudding" recipe, but of course, it's nothing at all like store-bought pudding. You'll need a blender for this one.

Add a quart of soy milk to the blender, then a couple of scoops of unsweetened banana-flavored simply natural spirutein soy protein powder. (Sources are listed in the downloadable book, "Secret Sources." Add stevia powder as the sweetener. I also toss in some supergreens powders, but you may want to avoid that at first, since it's an acquired taste (and it turns your banana pudding green).

If you were to blend this up, you'd have a banana-flavored soy protein shake. But we're not done yet: while the blender is running, put in about 1/2 tablespoon of guar gum powder, plus another 1/2 tablespoon of xanthan gum powder. These are thickeners. Within seconds, your blender will start whining and the whole mixture will attain the consistency of pudding. Now just pour it into a bowl and eat it like banana pudding! The mixture has near-zero carbs, no sugars, and is high in soy protein. Plus, it tastes great and fills you up fast. This is my favorite choice for a late-night appetite emergency.

You can get guar gum and xanthan gum at a health food store, or order online at a vitamin supplier.

Emergency appetite control food #4 The next food is pickles. That's right, pickles. But I am not talking about the pickles you find at a regular grocery store. Nearly all pickles you find in grocery stores contain artificial food coloring. They have a yellowish tint to them that has been added through the use of chemical colors. This is not a natural ingredient and so it is something you want to avoid purchasing. Instead, you want to buy completely natural pickles like the ones you get at Trader Joe's that are made without artificial colors or flavors and that have an extremely low calorie count as well. An entire jar of pickles may give you only 50 calories or so and yet they can be quite satisfying and take up a considerable amount of space in your stomach, thereby turning off your appetite cravings.

Just don't buy pickles containing any added sugars or artificial colors. Some pickles are, believe it or not, loaded with sugar. They're more like candied cucumbers than pickles. Read the ingredients labels to be sure what you're getting.

By the way, while you're eating pickles, it's an excellent time to take some calcium and mineral supplements, too. The acidity of the pickles will accelerate the absorption of calcium.

Emergency appetite control food #5 Here's an easy one: apples. Yep, apples. Eat the largest apple you can find. Sure, you'll get some calories and some carbs, but the apple will fill you up for quite a while, and that will stop you from eating far more calorie-dense foods.

Let me explain why this is such an effective strategy. If you're crazy hungry, it's very easy to reach for some processed foods (bag of chips, for example) and start munching away until you've consumed 1000 calories or more. And that's about half the total calories you need for the entire day!

But I dare you to try to eat 1000 calories worth of apples. It's impossible. You'll fill up even before reaching 400 calories, probably. Apples are great appetite suppressing foods because the bulky fiber fills up your stomach and turns off your appetite control hormones before you overeat. Plus, apples contain various phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. They're even a decent source of folic acid.

How to further suppress your appetite One more supplementary strategy to all of this is that you can multiply the appetite suppressing effects of all foods by swallowing a couple of fiber tablets before you begin eating. Fiber tablets or capsules would include psyllium husk, glucomannan, oat bran fiber, apple pectin fiber, or other natural fibers. You can find fiber supplements at any health food store. Be careful to watch the dosage of the fiber and drink plenty of water as you take these pills because without adequate water, they can gum up in your digestive tract and in extreme cases, they can block your digestive tract. So, you want to drink plenty of water with them.

By consuming both the fiber and the water before you start eating, you've already significantly turned off your appetite. Then by consuming these extremely low caloric density foods and beverages, you will further suppress your appetite. You can get an entire meal into your stomach for 100 calories or less and you can trick your brain into thinking you consumed an all-you-can-eat buffet.

But there's a catch to all this: in about an hour or so, your body will figure out that there isn't much energy in the food you've consumed. Your hunger will begin to return, but at least you delayed the onset of that hunger by an hour or more. If you combine this with physical exercise, you can delay it even further because the very act of exercising releases stored body fat and converts it back into blood sugar, which raises your blood sugar level and suppresses your appetite cravings.

You can also extend the effect of this by taking appetite suppressant supplements. Hoodia gordonii is one I've reviewed quite extensively, and it is currently increasing in popularity. My own experience is that hoodia tincture can help, but even hoodia doesn't shut off appetite completely.

Also, you don't want to starve yourself by eating these 100-calorie meals all day long. Remember, starvation is the fastest way to train your body to hold on to body fat. These are just items to get you past a difficult time when your appetite is unbearably intense.

Each day, you still need to get nutrition into your body in the form of whole foods and whole food supplements. The kind of meals I consume are soups made with quinoa, salads with low-calorie dressing, raw fruits and nuts, or avocado shakes made by blending avocado with soy milk and stevia. Of course, I also consume my superfood shakes on a regular basis. They are made from superfoods green powders such as Berry Green or The Ultimate Meal.

Overall, keep in mind that weight loss takes effort. You will experience moments of intense hunger, and these low-calorie, filling foods are one excellent way to get through a difficult time without packing on the pounds.

Weight Loss Tips - The Benefits Of Eating Small Regular Meals

zz
When it comes to weight loss eating small regular meals is highly regarded as one of the best ways to help control your weight. This article will explain how eating small regular meals throughout the day can help train your body to stop storing calories.

If you don't eat regularly your bodies' metabolism slows down, and your body begins to store more of the food that you eat. If you're the type of person that misses breakfast and eats at unregular times of the day meal then you are effectively training your body to store fat and calories as your body doesn't know when you will eat again.

If you eat more regularly your metabolism begins to speed up because your body begins to learn that more food will soon be eaten so it begins to burn off the calories instead of storing them as it would when you are eating less regularly.

Always eat breakfast as this kicks your metabolism into life for the day ahead and try to eat something healthy every 2 -3 hours. It is important to have a balanced diet and try to eat foods that have a high thermic effect.

The thermic effect is basically works on the principle of how many calories your body burns through eating, chewing and digesting food.

High protein foods for example have what is known as a high thermic effect. The thermic effect scale ranges from 3% to 30%. High protein foods such as fish and poultry for example have a thermic effect of 30%. This means that digestion burns 30% of the calories alone. Complex carbohydrates have a thermic effect of around 20% and at the lower end of the scale come fats and refined carbs.

And of course don't forget to exercise to help your body burn up the calories.

So in conclusion, eating small regular healthy meals helps to increase your metabolism reducing your bodies need to store fat and calories.
